When to delegate

The biggest problem people face when delegating is being unable to recognize if the task should be delegated or if they should do it themselves. It may seem obvious but most managers delegate tasks to someone who does not have a lot of workload instead of giving it to the right person for the job. As manager, you should know your team's strengths and weaknesses and assign the task to the person most suited to the job.

Make your meetings count

After you have decided upon who should get the job it is necessary to meet with your team to let them know how important the project is, what you expect from them and by when it is due. The process may not always look easy or clear cut, but the sooner you start, the sooner you will develop the expertise to do it effectively. Don’t be afraid to pass the baton, at the end of the day you will find that you are lightening your workload, getting more done and building a well rounded and more experienced team.
