How to find the motivation to stick with your goals

Posted on May 31, 2019

Motivation is a serious subject. Whether you are able to achieve your business goals, professional goals and even personal goals depends on your ability to stay motivated when times are tough. As any successful entrepreneur will tell you, “failure is just a stepping stone to success.” This article hopes to give you the will to get back up even when you feel like you couldn’t take another hit.

Eliminate procrastination

Procrastination is a habit that we all build when we try to avoid important work. In today’s day and age when distraction is easier than ever, procrastination has reached epidemic proportions. A simple technique to combat procrastination is to use the pomodoro technique. This technique is simply to set a timer for 15 minutes and make yourself work for those 15 minutes. You will find that you generally want to keep working even after 15 minutes are over. One of the easiest ways to beat procrastination is simply to get started. We have found that people working in coworking office spaces and hot desk office spaces have the luxury of using private meeting and conference rooms for when they need to tune out the rest of the world.

Change location

Simply changing your location can be a huge help as it allows you to focus and removes the distractions you are used to. Find a place where you would not face any of your normal distractions. A coworking office, a library or even the park can be great for a change of pace. Coworking offices and serviced office spaces also have the added benefit of being professional centres where you can find other like-minded people who will further motivate you to keep going.

Get some exercise

Motion creates emotion. Simple exercises can get your blood flowing and prime your brain to take action. You can also get similar results by engaging in some yoga. Engaging in such activities releases positive endorphins that reduce stress levels and stimulate creativity. If you work in a serviced office space for example, take a walk around the office or run up and down the stairs a few times. Move your body to create positive momentum and to put yourself in an action taking state.

Set a concrete goal

A major source of motivation that most people seem to ignore is the act of setting down a concrete and measurable goal. This goal should have milestones and rewards along the way that incentivise you and make you want to continue down the same path. If your goal is to own fully furnished office space in Mumbai, then you will have to set up markers like gather capital, create a team, ensure your business model is sustainable, decide on a place to set-up your office. Our minds gravitate towards the clear and precise and tend to ignore the vague, so be sure to take some time to physically write down your goal and the steps leading towards it.

Even with all of the motivation in the world, you are bound to face failure. Failing at our tasks and feeling low are human emotions that we all feel regularly. And yet, if there was but one thing you take away from this article, let it be this - focus on what you can control and let go of the things you can’t.
